Never back the limb bolts out further than the manufacturer's maximum recommended turns, as doing so can cause the bow to disassemble under extreme tension, resulting in severe injury. A safe rule of thumb is to make adjustments in half-turn increments, testing the pull after each adjustment. If you feel excessive vibration or hear unusual creaking, stop immediately and return the bolts to their previous secure position.

Once you have changed the resistance, your arrow flight dynamics will likely change as well. Heavier draw weights require stiffer arrow spines, while lighter weights need weaker spines to flex correctly around the riser. Once the sight is inserted, you secure it by serving thread tightly above and below the housing, using a series of half-hitch knots to prevent it from sliding up or down during the shot cycle.

The execution of your shot depends heavily on how you interact with the string, which brings release aids into the tuning equation. A hinge-style release operates entirely on pivot rotation rather than a standard trigger mechanism. As you pull through the shot and build back tension, the handle slowly rotates until the sear slips off the half-moon mechanism, allowing the hook to open and release the D-loop completely by surprise.

Evaluating arrow flight without the stabilizing influence of fletching is a highly effective way to fine-tune your rest and nocking point. This method involves shooting an unfletched shaft alongside identically matched fletched arrows into a target at close range. Because there are no vanes to correct its flight path in the air, the bare shaft will reveal any tuning inconsistencies by impacting at a different angle or location compared to the fletched group.

If the unfletched arrow impacts consistently higher or lower than your fletched group, you need to adjust your nocking point or arrow rest elevation in tiny increments until they group together. A left or right impact usually indicates an issue with the arrow spine stiffness or horizontal rest alignment. Moving the rest toward the direction of the unfletched arrow's impact will typically help bring the groups together, though this requires a methodical, patient approach.

It is important to conduct these tuning tests in a controlled environment free from wind interference, which can easily blow an unfletched shaft off course and provide false feedback. Replacing the main string or cables typically requires a specialized, heavy-duty press designed specifically for the wider, shorter limbs of modern horizontal models. Routine maintenance that you can safely perform at home includes keeping the flight rail properly lubricated and inspecting the string for wear where it engages the trigger latch. The serving in the center of the string takes immense abuse from the friction of the rail and the forceful impact of the latch mechanism. If you notice the serving thread separating or fraying, it needs to be rewound immediately before the underlying string fibers are compromised.
